People lost their lives while many are injured in two separate auto crashes in the Ogun State stretch of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday.
The first accident occurred at Kara market inward Lagos around 3.20am, and it involved three trucks which claimed three lives.
Traffic report indicated that a driver of a truck laced with container with number plate T4996LA coming from Lagos end was making a U-turn at the Kara axis, and an oncoming truck from the Ibadan end collided with it.
The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi said six males were in the two vehicles and three of them died, while three others escaped unhurt.
He said, “Eyewitness account had it that the containerised truck whose driver was trying to turn back inward Lagos didn’t indicate it was about to turn rightly and correctly too before the truck carrying chemicals outbound Ibadan ran into it.
“Unfortunately, the driver and the two motorboys who were in the truck carrying chemicals died in the unfortunate but avoidable incident.”
In the second accident which was a lone accident, Akinbiyi said a commercial Toyota haice bus loaded with 13 passengers, also had a keg of fuel on board and it caught fire in transit.
The bus with the number plate KAA 601 caught fire at Gbango Trailer park, Ogere inbound Ibadan along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.
He said four passengers were burnt to death in the inferno that engulfed the bus, while nine others suffered varying degrees of injuries.
He added that among the four victims were a father, his wife and their child.
Akinbiyi said, “According to eyewitness account the bus carried passengers and had a keg of fuel on board.
“However, all of a sudden, while in transit, the bus burst into flames burning four passengers, including a father, his wife and child, in addition to an old woman to death.”
