Join EFCC to Fight Corruption, Chukkol Charges Youths
The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Abdulkarim Chukkol has called on Nigerian youths to join hands with the Commission in fighting economic and financial crimes in the country.
Chukkol made the plea on Monday, August 14, 2023, when members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Anti-corruption Community Development Service Group, visited the Commission at its headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
The EFCC boss who was represented by the Director, Public Affairs, CE Osita Njwah, said the fight against corruption cannot be impactful without the involvement of the youths.
“The type of work we do here cannot be done alone by the EFCC. It must involve all of us, especially youths like you who have a long future ahead of you.
The bulk of those committing these crimes are youths, that’s the reason I am appealing to you, to join hands with us and fight this menace and make our dear country great,” he said.
Officials of critical departments of the Commission were on hand to enlighten the Corps members on the activities of the Commission.
The Head of Creative Communications Unit of the Public Affairs Department, ACE1, Chris Oluka said the Unit was established to assist the Commission in sensitizing the public on the ill of financial crimes, including corruption using creative tools such as drama, jingles, documentaries, visual arts, among others.
Also speaking, ACE1, Tony Orilade, Head, Public Interface Unit educated the Corps members on the various channels through which the Commission educates and sensitizes its publics. These cut across social media platforms, the website and through email as well as through the print and electronic media as well as special publications.
The Head of Enlightenment and Re-orientation Unit of the Commission, ACE II, Aisha Mohammed, in her contribution, said the Unit has the responsibility of enlightening and mobilizing the public to become active participants in the fight against corruption.
According to her, the unit engages with various stakeholders in schools, motor parks, communities, mosques and churches, etc to key into the fight against corruption.
Speaking earlier on the operational activities of the Commission, CSE Bahir Hotoro told the Corps members that the Operations Department handles the investigation of cases received through petitions and others generated through intelligence.
The Schedule Officer of the corps members, Mrs. Habiba Aminu Goni thanked the EFCC for the warm reception, stressing that the interaction broadened their horizon on the dimensions of the Commission engagements and pledged to continue to support the works of the EFCC.

Administrative Bail is Free - EFCC
Securing administrative bail of suspects in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, custody is free. The Acting Commander of the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Commission, ACE I Halima Mustafa Rufa’u stated this on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, when she received in her office, Executive Committee members of the Ibadan Branch of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, led by its chairman, Folashade Aladeniyi.
According to her, the Commission does not charge any fee from lawyers or family members of detained suspects before releasing them on bail.
She therefore warned lawyers to desist from standing as “surety” and legal representative, at the same time, to suspects, noting that such an act could not only get them into trouble, but does not portray the legal profession in good light.
“In the event the suspect was released and later jumps administrative bail, the Commission will have no choice than to arrest the lawyer first, before going after other sureties”, Rufa’u warned.
The Zonal Commander, however, commended the NBA for the visit, saying it would strengthen the existing collaboration and synergy between the two bodies.
In her remark, the chairman of the committee, Folashade Aladeniyi, commended the Ibadan Zonal Command of the EFCC for its efforts in curbing cybercrime and related fraud activities in Oyo State.
“I want to commend the Ibadan Zonal Command and the EFCC at large for its activities towards curbing economic and financial crimes, especially cybercrime in the country. This is evident in the statistics of convictions secured by the Commission over the years”, Aladeniyi stated.
She, however, appealed to the Zonal Commander to protect the rights of suspects in detention by ensuring their quick release, while also causing investigation into the activities of politically exposed persons accused of corruption in the state.
